In our August newsletter, we mentioned an Inventors Digest student invention competition. We’re now back to mention several more competitions for the next generation of inventors. And these offer some serious cash prizes for the winners. Check ‘em out:
- The ExploraVision science competition, run by Toshiba and the National Science Teachers Association, encourages K-12 students of all abilities to imagine... and write about… future technologies that solve problems. This is a team competition with four 1st place prizes (for four different grade-level brackets) and four 2nd place prizes, with each member of a 1st place team winning a $10,000 savings bond and each member of a 2nd place team winning a $5,000 savings bond. Deadline: 2.02.10. Details: Click here.
- The makers of Bubble Wrap® cushioning—the stuff we love for protecting prototypes in shipment—are asking students in grades 5-8 to come up with creative products that incorporate Bubble Wrap. The grand prize is a $10,000 savings bond, with 2nd and 3rd place winners taking home $5,000 and $3,000 savings bonds. We love the fact that the top winner’s school and teacher or invention mentor also receive awards. Deadline: 3.03.10. Details: Click here.
- You’d expect MIT (the Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to encourage students… and others too… to innovate. So it should be no surprise that the Lemelson-MIT Awards honor “rising inventors” (and mid-career inventors too!) for ingenuity, creativity and impact on economic and/or social well-being. There are a number of awards here, with several college student prizes of $30,000 and mid-career prizes as high as $500,000—yes, that’s right, up to $500,000. Deadline: Varies by specific award. Details: Click here.
